Determination of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn content of infant formulas by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV).

The differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) method described is based on the one reported by Hasse et al., but adapted to normal laboratory conditions. The values obtained in the estimation of the analytical parameters (linearity, detection and quantification limits, precision and accuracy) show that in the conditions described the method is sensitive enough, reliable and useful for determining these elements in infant formulas. A comparison between DPASV and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) methods in the conditions described here shows that the former is less sensitive but that they are similar in precision. Abstract Systematic kinetic and equilibrium studies on the lead ions removal ability by Ca-alginate gel beads have been performed by varying several internal parameters, namely, number of gel beads, nature and composition of the ionic medium and pH, which allowed us to model a wastewater in order to closely reproduce the composition of a real sample. Experiments have been carried out to assess the potential of differential pulse voltammetry and potential stripping analysis for determining Pb, Cu and Cd directly in dissolved honey samples using a flow-through cell. With the hanging mercury drop electrode Pb alone can be determined only if the electrode is first modified in-situ with Triton X 100 to increase the separation between the Pb peak and a broad, interfering adsorption peak which overlaps the Cu peak. If the (more sensitive) thin film mercury electrode is used the interference encountered is less so also Cu and Cd can be determined. A novel thermodynamic approach for the complexation study of toxic metal cations by a landfill leachate

Landfill leachates can contaminate nearby aquifers. The hazards deriving from this contamination also depend on the chemical speciation of various contaminants. A novel approach is proposed here to face this problem from a chemical thermodynamics point of view. Abstract Inorganic pigments in paintings and polychromed sculptures are studied by cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse stripping voltammetry using micro-sample coatings in Paraloid B72-film modified electrodes. Characteristic cathodic and anodic differential pulse profiles were obtained in the +0.4 to −1.0 V vs. SCE potential range for different cadmium, copper, lead, mercury and zinc pigments used in traditional colour palettes. Formation and Stability of Cadmium(II)/Phytate Complexes by Different Electrochemical Techniques. Critical Analysis of Results

In the present work the stability constants of various cadmium(II)/phytate (Phy) species were determined at T = 298.15 K in NaNO3(aq) at I = 0.1 mol·L−1 by DP-ASV (Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry) and by potentiometric titrations using an ISE-Cd2+. Cyclic voltammograms were also recorded to check the electrochemical behavior of cadmium in the presence of phytate. The results were analyzed together with previous data determined by ISE-H+ measurements. The adsorption capacity of an activated carbon – calcium alginate composite material (ACAA-Ca) has been tested with the aim of developing a new and more efficient adsorbent material to remove Pb(II) ion from aqueous solution. In the present study, silver ions were incorporated into a poly-(l-lactide) (PLA) matrix by a solvent casting technique using different solvents and glycerol as plasticizer. The effect of the different formulations on the morphology, thermal, mechanical and color properties were first evaluated. Additionally, a thorough study of the silver ions release to an aqueous environment was also monitored over time by anodic stripping voltammetry and correlated with the antimicrobial performance against S. enterica.
